7 Pairs of Celeb Exes Who Had to Work Together After Breaking Up
Running into your ex after a breakup can be one of the most cringe-worthy social experiences you can endure. But can you imagine having to work with an ex?! That's what all the celebs on this list had to do, so the next time you freak out over running into an ex at the mall, just get some inspiration from these people who somehow put their feelings aside and kept things cool. (Sure, they were making millions of dollars for doing it, but still.)
Jennifer Lawrence and Nicholas Hoult
J-Law and Hoult met on the set of X-Men: First Class and dated for a few years before breaking up in August, 2014, just as the franchise was wrapping up. Jennifer said of the experience in 2015, "... I was in a relationship with somebody for five years and that was my life. So my life was this person and these movies and we broke up around the same time that I wrapped those movies... Being 24 was this whole year of, 'Who am I without these movies? Who am I without this man?'" The pair remained amicable after the breakup.
Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray
Sophia Bush and Chad Michael Murray met and started dating on the set of One Tree Hill in 2003, and were married in 2005. But just months after getting hitched, Murray allegedly cheated on Bush with an extra he'd met on the set of the show. They divorced five months after getting married, and Sophia Bush has since said of the split: "We were two stupid kids who had no business being in a relationship in the first place. To all the other costars who've worked it out, more power to you."
Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki
Big Bang Theory stars Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki quietly dated for two years while working on the show, and cited the secrecy of their relationship as one of the reasons they ended up calling it quits. Cuoco said of the breakup, "I'm so lucky it was a mutual ending and that we don't hate each other...We dodged a huge bullet. Dodged a war." That's good, considering they're now both making a cool $1 million per episode.
Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody
The OC stars dated for three years while filming the show, but split about a year before it ended. Their characters, Summer and Seth, got married at the end of the series, and both Bilson and Brody went on to marry other actors after moving on from the show and their relationship.
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley
Blake Lively and Penn Badgley kept their relationship so secret while filming Gossip Girl, that even many people who worked with them on a daily basis had no idea they were dating, before it was revealed that they had broken up. Both actors kept things amicable while continuing to play love interests on the series, and like many of the others on this list, their characters also ended up getting married at the end.
Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter
Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter may have played siblings on the show Dexter, but they were actually married in real life from 2008 to 2011. The pair divorced before the series wrapped, and both admitted how difficult it was to go through a divorce while wrapping up the series. (Hopefully the divorce was at least less painful than that godawful series finale.)
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder
Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder announced they were dating in 2011, but broke things off in 2013. They continued to work together for a while, before Nina left The Vampire Diaries after season seven. Since the split and Nina's exit from the show, the pair have made it clear they have remained friendly, and that Nina did not leave the show because of any kind of falling out.
