7 Celebrities Who Got Tattoos Removed

Celebrities — they’re just like us! They also make bad decisions about what to permanently etch on their skin! Lots of celebrities have had tattoos removed, whether they were remnants of an old relationship, an ugly mistake, or out-of-line with their current brand. Here are seven celebrities who got tattoos removed.

1. Hayden Panettiere

The cardinal rule of word tattoos is to make sure they’re freaking spelled right. Hayden tattooed “live without regrets” in Italian on her ribcage, but didn’t run any Italian spell check on the last word. I guess she did end up regretting that, because she got the tattoo removed four years later.

2. Angelina Jolie

Angelina ran into the folly that has beset so many — she believed she’d be in love forever and wanted to commemorate that on her skin. First she tattooed “Billy Bob” on her, which she had removed after she divorced Billy Bob Thornton. Now she’s reportedly getting her Brad-related tattoos removed, including the coordinates of his birthplace. It’s okay, Angie. You thought it was forever. We all thought it was forever.

3. Megan Fox

Megan Fox was well-known for the large portrait of Marilyn Monroe tattooed on her forearm, but she had it removed in 2011 because she thought that having the image of someone so troubled emblazoned on her skin was bringing negative energy into her life. That seems unlikely, but it probably isn’t a good idea to get large portraits of people tattooed on your forearms regardless.

4. 50 Cent

In his rap days, 50 Cent covered his arms in tattoos. But once he started acting, he found it a pain in the ass to get them covered up with makeup on a daily basis so he decided to just laser them off instead. He said he got sick of having to show up early to set and as someone who is decidedly not a morning person, it sounds like he made the logical choice. Based on recent photos, it looks like lasering the tattoos off of your entire arm takes a while, as he hasn’t really gotten that far.

5. Johnny Depp

In the '90s, Johnny Depp was wildly in love with Winona Ryder, which is fascinating to me. He got “Winona forever” tattooed on his arm, but then, of course, they broke up. He got the last two letters of her name removed so the tattoo now reads “Wino forever.” Seeing as there are rumors that he’s an alcoholic, it sounds like he made the tattoo into something more truthful for himself.

6. Victoria Beckham

Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham is reportedly having all of her tattoos removed in order to fit her new minimalist aesthetic. I knew the minimalist trend was big right now, but wow. The most noticeable removal is her back tattoo of Hebrew script reading “I am my beloved’s and my beloved is mine” that ran down her spine, dedicated to her husband, David “Soccer Spice” Beckham.

7. Mark Wahlberg

Mark Wahlberg was – to put it mildly – a very wild person when he was younger. (He committed a hate crime and went to jail for it, but that’s not what this article is about). He got a ton of terrible tattoos as a teenager, including Tweety Bird, Sylvester the Cat, and a Bob Marley portrait. Once he hit it big in Hollywood, he got them removed, probably to avoid people constantly pointing and exclaiming, “Oh my god, is that Tweety Bird?” He even took his kids with him to the tattoo removal so they could see what a pain it is and hopefully be inspired not to ink themselves.
